On February 18th 1998 Tom Slattery life was changed forever. While helping kids that were stuck on the side of the road, Tom was struck by an uninsured drunk driver. He was the victim of an accident that left him with the loss of both of his lower legs. His current Prosthetics are in terrible shape and he is really in need of a new set. Through his employer he does have insurance but it only covers 40% after his $5,000 deductible is met. The initial cost of the Prosthetics is $40,000. The goal is $30,000 to get him what the legs he needs. Tom is a full time working, single dad of two great kids and he loves making their time together as memorable as possible. He is also helping his mother care for his father that has Lewy Body dementia, Parkinson's disease. Now as you can only imagine, as the condition of his Prosthetics deteriorate, it is also taking a toll on his body. Although it's difficult he tries to take this negative experience and bring something good from it, so he is a speaker for Victim Impact Classes for DWI hoping someone sees how he has been affected and chooses to not drink and drive. But through it all you can always count on him for a smile or a joke or even just a wink to make your day
