Have you ever been the little girl in dance class that can't afford the recital dress? Or the boy, that is really good at soccer but doesn't have the funds to buy the cleats that he needs to play at his best? The athletes at Nathan Hale School, located in Cleveland, Ohio are facing just that! The Nathan Hale school athletes, also known as The Patriots, have been using many of the same single set of uniforms when playing basketball, soccer, volleyball, and when running track! Wait, it gets worse - Many of these uniforms are about 9 years old! With approximately 60 athletes a year, for 9 years, these same uniforms have been worn by approximately 540 students, seen more then 2,000 events and been washed so many times, we cant even count! Boys are forced to wear girls shorts or jerseys, numbers are falling off and you know its bad when you have to pull out the duck tape! I think anyone would agree that new uniforms are a must have based on just this alone, but, one should also know that The Patriots have earned these much needed new uniforms. They make the final brackets in basketball and have runners that qualify for city finals in track almost every year! Unfortunately, like many inner city schools, extra curricular activities are barely making the financial cut. There simply is no money left in the budget and parents often cannot afford to pay to play, let alone purchase uniforms. Nathan Hale's sports coaches, cover many costs themselves ranging from snacks and water, to shoes and other random items the kids may need. The cost of new uniforms however, is not one that they can take on by themselves. This is where we need help! We are lucky enough to have a local designer, Angel Criado, that has donated his time in designing the look of the new uniforms! Still, based on quotes we have received locally and via online, we are approximately $5,000 away from making this a possibility. The $5,000 will allow us to purchase a set of uniforms for each sport as well as each sex. No more boys in girls shorts for us! With any left over funds, if there be any, we would purchase other sports necessities like soccer goalie gloves, track batons, and stop watches. No amount is too small and every penny helps! Even passing the link to our fundraising page is a giant help! Thank you for reading and in helping these school athletes look as good as they play!
