BENEFITING: NAWL FOUNDATION
The NAWL Foundation is a 501(c)(3) entity and is the charitable and research arm of The National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL). Formed in 2008, The NAWL Foundation has become a leading center for innovative research and education about women in the law. The Foundation’s cutting-edge work includes the highly regarded NAWL National Survey on Retention and Promotion of Women in Law Firms, the first-ever National Survey of Women’s Initiatives, and a planned National Survey on Advancement of Women in Corporate Legal Departments.
For each of these projects, the NAWL Foundation’s focus is on benchmarking and analyzing the status of women in the profession as well as the factors that impact the extent to which women lawyers advance in their careers into executive and leadership roles. Law firms, corporations and individuals have welcomed the NAWL Foundation’s work, which is described as “stunning” and “game-changing” by national legal publications and bar leaders. The research is the “how-to-guide for law firms looking to advance women within their leadership ranks” and a roadmap “of the kinds of things that need to be done if women are to be thoroughly integrated into the fabric of a law firm.”
The NAWL Foundation has also supported the development of legal models for the rescue of child victims of sex trafficking, by funding a project to develop protocols of coordination among law enforcement agencies, child protective services and other service providers.
The work of the NAWL Foundation depends on charitable contributions. It relies on the generous contributions of NAWL, lawyers, law firms and corporations to fund the research that focuses the discussion for women to achieve parity within the legal profession.
