Right now, somewhere in New York City, there’s a tiny puppy huddled in a dark alley. The floor is damp, the water dirty, the food trash. That puppy is scared witless and will snap at anyone who tries to touch him simply because he doesn’t know what’s going on.
Now, multiply that sad puppy by a million. And throw a million sad kittens in the mix. And maybe a few sad bunnies too. Now, shake and serve – you’ve got a basic picture of what the abandoned animal scene is like in New York City.
Thankfully, there are some amazing shelters around the city that do their very best to help those poor critters. New York Cares volunteers spent 12,000 hours keeping animals happy, healthy, and socialized at the shelters around the city last year. But that’s just a drop in the bucket. Donate $20 to put even more volunteers to work giving animals the human contact, love, and attention they need to be socialized and ready for adoption.
All donations will support New York Cares' general programming, which provides critical services to 400,000 at-risk New Yorkers each year. For information on making donations to support specific programs, please contact Masha.Spaic@newyorkcares.org.
