BENEFITING: Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation
EVENT: New York City 2014
EVENT DATE: Sep 28, 2014
I have been doing the Tunnel to Towers Run ever since I was 14 years old. My godmother became involved as a volunteer, as she knew one of the Siller brothers and is a Staten Islander. I began to volunteer and then went straight to run as soon as I finished checking other runners from around the country and world in. As I have ran time and time again through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, following the footsteps of Stephen Silller, I get a feeling which is indescribable. The feeling is a mix of patriotism, courage and honor, although I can not even imagine what it must feel like to be a true hero like those nation’s first responders and service members who protect us each day not only in New York but around the world. Seeing the pictures of those who have fallen as you run through the tunnel, makes you run faster and gives you a sense of encouragement to remember that each step is a step in their honor. Please donate any amount you can, even if it is only $1. The money raised goes to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which includes a program called Building for America's Bravest (BFAB), which aims to raise funds to build custom designed, specially adapted homes for the most catastrophically injured American service members. The Tunnel 2 Tower Run is much more than a run, it is a celebration of the lives of those who gave their lives to protect others, and I consider it a true honor to be given the chance to run each year.
