We are over halfway there!

BENEFITING: DIAKONOS INTERNATIONAL INC
My Story: Sherry Peters
I have recently fulfilled my first year as a Board Member for Diakonos International, Inc., (it's been an AMAZING YEAR!) and I am now leading their Next Generation Ambassador Program. This team is made up of 4 wonderful young women from various parts of the United States - Los Angeles, New York and Miami, and we will be working on various fundraising goals for the Diakonos children’s home - Kominote Ti Fanmi Nou, which means “Small Community of Family.” I am also in charge of putting together a special Next Generation Ambassador mission trip to Haiti in January 2017 for these ladies - Kyla, Jozefina, Lexi and Jhoanny. We are all very excited about this trip!
While abroad, we will participate in various duties daily to help the children learn English, Spanish and even photography; but most importantly, to continue bringing hope to vulnerable children living in extreme poverty in Haiti. Additionally, we intend to visit an organization called “Restavek Freedom” to interact with and bring hope to teens who have been rescued from child domestic slavery in Haiti, a very sad but real situation in Haiti.
Many of you already know that I was a missionary kid. I grew up for years living away from my parents in a boarding school in the small town of Tambo, Bolivia. Little did I realize that this would have a profound affect on my life. First, I can say I know where I became so independent…
As I look back, I also see where I gained my desire to travel, hence the reason I likely became an international flight attendant. But when I really get down to the core of things, I believe that God orchestrated my life so that I could incorporate all of my passions and made me a “modern day missionary.”
As you also may know, I have also been an advocate in the fight against human trafficking now for about 3 years. Through a benefit for Airline Ambassadors, I met Martine, the founder of Diakonos International. She invited me to her children's home in Haiti, and when I visited, I instantly became part of their family. I absolutely love those kids!
As the Executive Director of this Next Generation Ambassador program, my aim is to be a shining example; to be a leader that these women can look up to and learn from; to help inspire these women to greatness, to learn more about themselves and to grow in bounds!
Thank you for supporting this team effort to "make the world a better place!"
