BENEFITING: Children's Tumor Foundation
ORGANIZER: Children's Tumor Foundation
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2016
I'll be running the United Airlines NYC Half in support of the Children's Tumor Foundation and my friends Kristy and Jane.
When NF was diagnosed for Kristy's daughter Jane, Kristy decided to run marathons to raise money for CTF. She asked me to join her and we've been virtual training partners now for 7 marathons. During this time Kristy has singlehandedly raised over $100,000.
The main reason to run is to support the work of the Children's Tumor Foundation and all that they do to help children like the amazing Jane.
Jane was born with neurofibromatosis, type 1 (NF1), which was diagnosed at age 6 months. Jane has many neurofibromas, but the primary manifestation of her NF is a large plexiform neurofibroma on the right side of her face, jaw, and neck, which affects her ear, eye, and other organs.
Jane is currently participating in her third clinical trial of an experimental medication in the hope of controlling her tumor (the only other available treatment is radical surgery). She has had a good response to her first two years of this medicine, and we are hopeful it will continue to slow the growth of her tumors.
Please consider supporting me to fund NF research and the development of new NF therapies--like the one that is helping Jane.
