What do you want to do with your life? Do you remember being asked this question as a young adult beginning your career? Do you wish there had been someone to talk to about unique, fulfilling career paths?
Students today are graduating in a period of deep recession and high unemployment rates. Simultaneously, government funding and donations for the nonprofit sector are decreasing. Pairing skilled young people with nonprofit organizations builds human and social capital to jumpstart a career and also make nonprofits sustainable. Equally as important, the private sector can use these leaders with service experience who are empathetic and mission-driven as opposed to solely profit-driven.
The Next Generation of Service pairs graduating college students who are unsure of what to do after college – but know they want to make a difference – with a peer mentor. Our mentors guide young people in exploring their passions and matching them to year-long stipend service opportunities such as AmeriCorps, Global Health Corps, and World Teach. We have completed our pilot program at the University of San Diego and San Diego State University and we are preparing to expand our services to universities across the country.
We truly believe the development of social entrepreneurs in any sector will both improve our economy and better our society. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation as part of our summer Crowdrise campaign, and share our video with your community.
