If you lived in Newburyport in the 1990s, there is no doubt you either had the pleasure of meeting, hearing or reading about Travis Landreth.
Travis' classmates knew him as a universally liked and respected young man with a bright future, a friend with a generous spirit and a gift for humor that never dampened his sincerity. When he left our hometown, many more would come to know Travis as the world class competitive athlete who inspired young people across the country with his talent.
In 2001, we were devastated to learn that our young classmate died suddenly while on a training run in Palo Alto, CA, shortly following a series of record-shattering victories in the sport of distance running.
This year, Travis would have celebrated the 20th anniversary of his high school graduation with the Class of 1994. Our class, Travis' class, is asking for donations to grow the scholarship fund now dedicated to his memory, which has been established to help other young runners achieve their dreams.
Any contribution you can make is greatly appreciated. From all of us who are fortunate to call Travis our classmate and friend, and from young athletes everywhere who continue to be inspired by his achivements - thank you for helping to celebrate Travis' life and his memory.
