Moringa Olifiera (or Morango as it is known in Nicaragua)
is a locally grown tree that is considered the most useful tree in the world. Moringa
is like a multivitamin in leaf form. Gram for gram it contains:

7 times more vitamin C than oranges
3 times more potassium than bananas
4 times more calcium than milk
2 times more protein than milk
4 times more vitamin A than carrots.

The most amazing property of moringa leaves, especially in the developing world, is their ability to increase milk production in lactating women.
Through a partnership with Hope Clinic International, ERSLA "Emergency Response Services for Latin America” has developed a program to teach Nicaraguan women in "Casa Maternas" (maternity homes) how to use Moringa. Casa Maternas house women from remote areas in the
weeks leading up delivery so they can be near a hospital. Because the Casa
Maternas hardly have enough food on hand to feed the women themselves while
they wait there, the addition of nutrients from Moringa can be crucial in
ensuring a healthy baby. The project operated by ERSLA goes beyond teaching the
women how to use the plant. New trees are planted at each session around the Casa
so they will eventually have their own supply and be able to process the leaves
for their guests to take home after the birth of their child.
ERSLA is looking for sponsors to expand the program to more Casa Maternas. Cost
for the classes runs between $100.00 and $150.00 per month depending on
location. Please consider giving to help
teach women a wonderful way to help their children have a chance at improved
development during their formative years.
