Nicaragua Mission Trip & ESPAC
Organized by: Frederick Jim Benitez
EVENT DATE Dec 31, 2016
The purpose of this fund raising campaign is two-fold: to help me participate in our church's mission trip to one of our orphanages in Jinotepe, Nicaragua and also to donate part of the proceeds to my high school alma-mater, "Escuela Superior Dr. Pedro Albízu Campos" (ESPAC).
ABOUT THE MISSION TRIPS:
I am blessed to have the opportunity to travel again to Nicaragua for the week of November 14th, 2016 and help our sponsored orphanages, to love on, and to serve those in need. Don't get me wrong, It's not just about helping others in other countries.... at Church by the Glades we are constantly helping those in need in our own backyard, through NPPI (No Perfect People Inc.) and the army of God's Volunteers to make an impact in peoples lives!
What a humbling and awesome experience it was, to get dirty and sweaty for HIS glory, while showing the world what HIS love is all about....! During these trips we have built homes for the poorest of the poor, fed many families in the community, brought smiles to the children and loved on our kids at the orphanage. "Brazos de Amor" is special, not just because they are an orphanage, but because they love, feed and teach the children of the community during the week.
ABOUT THE BOXES:
Though donations are greatly appreciated, my main effort is to sell Puertorican themed mini boxes to raise funds. As you can see in the pictures on this site, they include Our National Flag, El Morro, Jibaritos and Gallo. For students of ESPAC, you should recognize the school mural picture, taken a few years ago at one of the class reunions.
I make these boxes to fund my mission trips, not for sales purposes, or looking for freebies...! Woodwork is a passion and hobby...! It is not a business. Each box is hand-made with felt lining, and are a labor of love, with a noble purpose and I know you will appreciate them, moreso because of what you've helped accomplish...!
El Morro, Jibaritos and El Gallo images are very special to me. These were painted by my father, Juan Benitez back in the sixties. Having been born in Ohio (before my parents returned to La Isla del Encanto when I was ten), these paintings were my only frame of reference as to what Puerto Rico was like... and I fell in love with the island.
AS FOR ESPAC:
Alumni - Class of 1975, I was known as "Freddy", part of the kids that inaugurated the new school and the first graduating class to have studied all four years at "Dr. Pedro Albízu Campos" home of the first Puerto Rico High School Football League team, the Levittown Spartans.
Over the years, after having gone to various of our famous "Re-encuentros" and reunited with many many friends, I am saddened it has been cancelled for the last two years (2015 was an important milestone for our class).
However, the School Committee made the right call, as local businesses should support the school...! Which led me to including the School Mural Boxes, because though I cannot help physically (I live in Florida), I can donate a portion of the Mural Box proceeds to the Re-encuentro Committee and in some small measure, contribute to it being held in 2017.
Each handmade box is $25 (with decorative bag) and for each School Mural Box, $4 will be donated to the committee, for Re-encuentro 2017, or the school. Once this fundraising campaign is over I can still make the School Mural boxes for those who would like them. On the comment line, please indicate the type of box(s), and if you want them to say "Puerto Rico". For the School Mural box, indicate your class year.
Please feel free to send me an email by clicking on the "Contact the Organizer" link with your Name, mailing address, phone number, where you're from (If you prefer a flag other than Puerto Rico).
If you prefer something else for example: if you're a sports fan and would prefer a sports box, or country flag or university.. or simply would like a personal photo or image, please contact me via email... I'll do my best to make it happen. and I will make a box with that image.
There aren't enough boxes in the world to outshine the good that is done through you....! God Bless you and Thank you for sponsoring me!
