Family and Friends- We are so excited this year to travel together as a family to Nicaragua on a medical mission trip with Corner of Love. Please consider supporting this amazing organization. Our bodies will provide the hands to do the work, but we need funding to provide the needed medication and supplies. Your donation is 100% tax deductible, and will make a world of difference to those in deep poverty in the mountain villages of San Ramon, Nicaragua. Our family has been on this mission before as individuals, and we have seen the devastation, and shared our stories with you. We feel so blessed that all 5 of us can travel together this time to serve those in need. Won't you help us to help others?
If you are ready to donate, AWESOME, thank you!!
Thinking about it, but want to know more about what Corner of Love does? Visit www.corneroflove.org for more information, call or email any of us- Jon, Crista, Jack, Parker or Sadie, or read the excerpts from Corner of Love's website below. This is a local charity started by my dear friends, Tanya and Nelson Amador, (Nelson was born in San Ramon), your donation will make a difference!
Native leadership helps Corner of Love achieve great things for God by teaching Nicaraguans how to take measurable steps out of poverty. Our in-country programs are conducted in a variety of venues, such as rural churches and schools, our office in the town of San Ramón, and at our ministry site, Plaza de Bondad, near La Lima River. At these facilities and others, we provide services and goods to any deserving patient or person in need regardless of their political view or religious belief through these programs:
Church & Discipleship Development
Corner of Love serves in rural settings, going to each patient’s home or village to deliver medical, dental, and eye care. Medicine and supplies are packed each day and brought by truck, bus, horseback, or backpack to reach remote communities. One of the most important things we do is distribute anti-parasite medications where there is no potable water supply. We work alongside Nicaraguan doctors and volunteers and host medical and dental professionals from all over the world to bring healthcare to more than fifty villages each year.
1.7 million deaths occur each year throughout the world from water-borne diseases such as parasitic infections and diarrhea. These deaths are preventable through clean water, safe hygiene practices, and adequate sanitation. Corner of Love is committed to bringing an end to unnecessary water-borne illness in the villages where we serve by coupling healthcare with clean water. Every time we do a clinic, patients are asked to give a humble offering of 10 Cordobas (.45 cents USD) for each ticket, if they are able. These funds are collected and matched by Corner of Love, then gifted to that rural community to begin a water improvement project designed by the villagers. Projects include “obras” like digging rustic wells, piping clean water into schools and churches, constructing potable water towers, purchasing tanks, building latrines, and often moving water sharing points to more sanitary locations. All projects are 100% native-led and executed, using this sustainable funding model, where labor and funds originate from the village who hosts the healthcare clinic. Larger projects like planning for industrial capacity wells, installation of electrical lines to town water treatment facilities, bore and tube wells, and equipment donations like submersible and hand-pumps will take place from our new Water Center, adjacent to Quinta El Misionero.
Since 2004, Corner of Love has made financial and in-kind donations to hundreds of schools in and around San Ramón and ignited a passion for learning in underprivileged children and teens that believed attaining an education was impossible. Through shoes and backpack distribution events, targeted aid to driven students in rural areas, and support to teachers in the Darienses Mountain Range, we have shown our commitment to academic advances for Nicaragua’s next generation. Our next steps in promoting education in Nicaragua will be to finish our Leadership School and select motivated student representatives from villages we serve in for study there. Corner of Love’s Leadership curriculum will include Bible Study, English, and Computer Skills, while preparing young citizens to positively contribute to the development of their rural community.
