Late last year I vacationed at Los Cardones Surf Lodge in Nicaragua. Once a week the owners/managers round up vacationers and head off to do some local volunteering at a school. We visited a grade school in a small town, San Diego, bringing a mobile library from which kids can check out books. I spent a few hours reading to some of the children and their thirst for knowledge and need for everything from books and school supplies to sports equipment and clothing was very apparent. After I returned to the U.S. I sent a box of books to the school, but postage is expensive. So I decided to raise some money to send to Los Cardones so they can get what the kids need.
