BENEFITING: INTERNATIONAL VETERINARY OUTREACH
The International Veterinary Outreach group at UC Davis travels to northwestern Nicaragua every December and June to provide veterinary care to the local community. We need your help to buy the vaccines and medical supplies that we need to make these trips successful! We provide both a wellness clinic and spay/neuter services in these communities with little to no access to veterinary services.
The focus of International Veterinary Outreach (IVO), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is to provide veterinary care and education to promote animal welfare in underserved communities, while providing a unique educational experience for veterinary students in organizing mobile veterinary clinics and working with diverse cultures. We strive to serve communities with little to no access to veterinary care, both abroad and within the United States. We have worked on Indian reservations in northern California and established relationships with communities in northwestern Nicaragua. In order to maintain and to foster relationships with these underserved communities, we return biannually to the same locations.
Money donated to this fundraiser will be going directly to funding our upcoming trip and to the medical care of the animals we treat. Specifically, we still need to purchase medications including de-worming medication, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. In order to perform surgeries, we need medications to induce and maintain anesthesia, oxygen tanks, as well as the suture for the actual procedures. A large part of our financial need also comes from purchasing vaccines. All students, technicians, and doctors fund their own flights, room, and board, so that all money raised for the trip goes directly to caring for the animals we see and treat.
We could not fund these outreach missions without outside help and donations, and we thank you in advance for your kind and generous support of our group!
