In November of 2011, Nicholas Battles was seriously injured while on his last training mission as a recruit for the Marines. This injury immediately left Nick paralyzed from the neck down. Nick is currently at James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, where he has been receiving care as well as physical and occupational therapy. Nick's injury has obviously been a huge challenge from an emotional and mental standpoint for him and his family. In addition, the financial responsibilities, aside from what is covered by the Marines, is monumental. The Battles' family would like to get Nick into a program called Project Walk. Project Walk is an organization established to help those suffering with a spinal cord injury (SCI) improve their daily living, by regaining function and perhaps, even walking again. The program offers an aggressive and comprehensive exercise-based program which is a proven method for SCI recovery. In Florida, there are very few options for recovery and a person living with a spinal cord injury is not only overwhelmed, but in addition to recovery, needs hope, encouragement and a reason to wake up every day. Project Walk can offer this to Nick and we can help him to get there!! Please join me in making this a reality for this incredible young man who is truly a hero in every since of the word!!!
