DAY TO GO
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in Makeup Artistry. I was an entrepreneur in LA, doing makeup and whatnot when I missed my childhood dream of owning a hotel, went back to working at a hotel and college for Hospitality Management. I quickly found my niche in Revenue Management, working for Wyndham, then Morgans Hotel Group. I went on a couple of business trips to New York city and fell in love with it right away. I moved to New York in October 2015 and now work at the Conrad New York (Hilton luxury brand) in Battery Park as the Director of Revenue Management.
New York is where I first tried martial arts. I grew up loving boxing, but never considered trying it myself. I did not see any women boxers. Playing a male-dominated sport is not new to me, as I grew up playing baseball on the boys team because I thought softball was "soft", which I learned in high school was not the case. I was new to New York, an avid Classpass user, and first tried kickboxing at the UFC Gym in FiDI which was a couple blocks from where I lived. I loved it. I soon frequented several other Boxing, Kickboxing, MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gyms around New York.
I basically learned the New York cityscape by fitness studios. I was training at one particular gym and brought up sparring, and the trainer said you need to join a gym. Of the many gyms I tried, Church Street Boxing was by far my favorite. It felt authentic, fighters trained there and the trainers didn't assume I was doing this for self-defense, as many other gyms had. I now train mainly Muay Thai/Kickboxing at Church Street Boxing about six days a week and love the people, gym and training. In August I joined Renzo Gracie Academy and started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which I also love and will compete in as well.
I want to compete to test my skills and develop the mental strength involved in competition. I always enjoy fundraising. I was raised valuing volunteer work and being part of the community, so this opportunity with Fighters4Life combines my passions.
