On June 22nd I'll be riding my bicycle 560 miles cross-country, up 25,700 feet of mountains to raise awareness for a charity that supports mentally disabled adults.
This will easily be the biggest physical challenge I’ve ever attempted. I’m sure at some point the exhaustion will surpass my physical limits and become all encompassing, taxing mind, body and spirit. But this challenge like many of the challenges we face pales in comparison to the obstacles and difficulties those with mental illness encounter on a daily basis.
This is subject is close to my heart as I’ve watched my Aunt struggle with it all my life, even with our love and support. In my opinion support should go beyond the nucleus of the family. Fortunately there are others out there that think so too, who advocate for and serve these underprivileged individuals. One such organization is The Center. They’ve created a community supporting mentally disabled individuals and their families in life, work, and at home. If you think this is a noble cause worthy of our time, attention and resources please join me in supporting The Center and Pursuit.
Pursuit is a capital campaign with a two-tiered mission: first, to raise $11MM for The Center and second, to advance the interest of all individuals with disABILITIES across the country. Across the United States, there are currently 10 million individuals that have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Pursuit’s mission is to bring awareness to this underserved population by bicycling across the United States this summer.
