Mary K. is a lovely 18 year old who comes from a tribe called Kikuyu. Kikuyu is about 45 minutes from Daraja Academy. She grew up as an only child living with her mother. Mary’s dream is to become a doctor. That dream may come true with the help of you, my friends. My hope is to help her continue her good work at the Daraja Academy.
On Mary’s first day at school, she asked for a cloth from the kitchen and stayed after lunch to wipe down the tables at the end of the meal. She continued doing this after every meal for 2 days. Mary was then appointed as the Dining Hall Prefect, an honorable position in which she would help take care of the dining hall. Mary then helped 4 girls in getting over illness. She brought them meals, comfort and medication. The Daraja administration was so impressed with Mary’s work that she was then elected Health Prefect, a prestigeous leadership position in which she would help care for students when they weren’t feeling well.
Mary is very bright, and works very hard in her studies. She is shy, but underneath her bright eyes, she is passionate and still dreams of becoming a doctor. She hopes that with an education at Daraja, she will be able to reach those dreams.
