BENEFITING: Stand Up To Cancer
EVENT DATE: May 04, 2014
On May 4, 2014, I will be running my first full marathon. The Cox Sports Marathon in Providence, Rhode Island. I decided that I am ready for this. That my body is capable of running 26.2, of course after all the training I will endure.
When I started thinking about running my very first marathon, I wanted it to be extra special. I wanted to do something more than just meeting a goal of mine. When I found the Cox Sports Marathon in May, two things came to mind. My grandma’s 71st would have been May 5. She passed away from cancer in February 2011. And my grandpa, who passed away from cancer in May 2007. I thought it would be such a wonderful idea to run this race in memory of them. And to honor those who are also struggling with cancer. If my grandparents were here with me today, I know they would be so proud to see how far I have come.
That is why I am here.
This fundraiser is to raise money for Stand Up 2 Cancer. They are a charitable organization created to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives. The research that will be done through their Dream Team projects could impact the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of cancers in adults and children across ethnicities. The cancer statistics are staggering. Cancer claims one person every minute of every day in the United States. 1 out of 3 women and 1 out of 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes. Hopefully, one day, those numbers will change for the better.
Please support this worthwhile cause by contributing to my personal goal of $2,500! Every donation makes a positive difference in the lives of others. Do this for that someone you lost or who is struggling. Thank you!
