Dear Friends and Family,
In June of 2001 I moved to New York City a bright eyed, curious and naive girl of 21 in search of life, love and the pursuit of happiness. Throughout the years that simple search has led me down roads I never thought I'd be lucky enough or strong enough to travel. Perhaps more importantly, I have learned that it's not the challenges we face in life but how we face life's challenges that define our character. Therefore, soon I will return to the City I called home for nearly 12 years, only this time I will arrive a woman of substance in search of a challenge and the opportunity to define my character. On Sunday November 1st 2015, I will complete the New York City Marathon and I am asking for your support.
I will be running the Marathon in support of Back On My Feet New York (http://nyc.backonmyfeet.org/) and am charged with the challenge of raising $3000 for the cause. Back On My Feet is a national organization that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can make a change in their lives that results in employment and independent living. I was intrigued by this organization because their founder poses the theoretical question, "if we can change the way people see themselves, can we change the direction of their lives?" She felt strongly that if we can help those experiencing homelessness see themselves as deserving, capable and hardworking than this question is no longer a theory but a reality. And while I have been blessed in my life and never experienced homelessness, I have had to change the way in which I see myself and therefore changed the direction of my life. Throughout my personal heartbreaks, joys, fear of losing my Father to cancer and the elation of self reinvention it was running that allowed me to leave my past behind me, place one foot in front of another and remain focused on my future. At first it was not easy to overcome such adversity but over time I have become stronger and life, much like running, never gets easier we just become stronger.
I am humbly asking for your support to help me reach my fundraising goal of $3000 before November 1st, your contribution can make a difference and will help inspire the change that so many people deserve and need. Please visit my fundraising page and donate as much as you're comfortable with. In advance, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and will be thinking of each and everyone one of you on my 26.2 mile journey throughout the greatest City in the World.
With much love and gratitude,
