Nicole's WWOOFing Project
Organized by: Nicole Harper
It is a passion of mine to give back to the planet and people in as many ways as I can. For the past few months I've had the opportunity to work/volunteer for an amazing farm (Heart 2 Heart Farms, please check them out at http://www.heart2heartfarms.com/). It's given me a huge drive toward organic farming and volunteering.
A friend of mine turned me on to WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities in Organic Farming). "WWOOF New Zealand provides experiences in organic living from large farms to family gardens, organic orchards and vineyards, urban organics etc. WWOOF also provides an intercultural exchange that promotes understanding and tolerance. [...] WWOOF hosts are organic farmers. They enjoy passing on their knowledge of sustainable and organic practices. Volunteering with a WWOOF host is about helping on an organic farm and learning and experiencing organic and biodynamic farming and gardening." It is now a dream of mine to go over to New Zealand and help out at a lot of different farms through the October to December months. Unfortunately I cannot afford the plane ticket to go. Once I get there I will live on the farms I help/learn at; they exchange room and board for the hours of work I put in so the only money I need will be for the plane. If I can make it over my $1000 goal though that would be incredibly awesome so I have some spending money to do touristy things!
