BENEFITING: SANLAAP NORTH AMERICA INC
Hi Everyone! It's that time of year again! You're thinking.. is she serious? Didn't I JUST donate to her birthday fundraiser like a year ago? That's the funny thing about birthdays, they happen once a year! (But seriously, thank you to those of you that support my birthday fundraisers, I love you guys)
For the rest of you who don't know, every year since my 21st birthday, I have been fundraising for charities close to my heart. The last few years the theme has been women's betterment, and I will be continuing the theme this year too. So without further ado, this year my charity is Sanlaap North America (SNA). SNA is an organization founded by an NYU alum, Sindhura Sarikonda, after watching a heartbreaking film about human trafficking.
SNA has three core projects -
Project Rehabilitation: Providing food, shelter, and medical care for girls rescued from red light districts in India, Nepal, and Myanmar. They also focus on vocational training and rehabilitation to get these girls back on their feet.
Project MD: "Project MD is our initiative to provide medical care to not just the girls in our shelter, but also to the girls living in Kolkata’s red light district. SNA will host four make-shift clinics per year – the clinics will provide basic medical care, along with pregnancy and HIV testing."
Project Voice: Raising awareness of the 1.2 million+ young, helpless girls in India’s brothels. Since inception, they have reached over 7000 people across 40+ countries.
Here's what your money can do for a girl in need:
$10 - meals for 2 weeks and school supplies for a month
$15 - meals for 2 weeks and medical care for a month
$60 - provide one girl with a vocational training scholarship so she can get back on her feet and escape the cycle of abuse.
No amount is too small and every dollar makes a difference! Please help me reach my goal by my 25th birthday on October 19th!
PS: There will be another themed birthday pizza party this year (doesn't that picture look awesome!?). The 3 highest doners will get an automatic invite (day/time TBD, transportation will not be provided). :)
