BENEFITING: Support for International Change
EVENT DATE: Mar 03, 2011
As many of you already know, going to Africa has always been a dream of mine! I have recently been blessed with this amazing opportunity! A couple of days ago, I was accepted to become a part of a non-profit organization named Support for International Change (SIC). The mission of this organization is to educate school and community groups in Africa about HIV, to limit the impact of the HIV epidemic in northern Tanzania, where 2 million people are infected, and improve the quality of life for people who are already infected with AIDS. I have been selected to travel to Tanzania for 8-weeks this summer, and lead an education program that teaches children and adults about HIV prevention and treatment methods, in addition selected students help hospitals and orphanages that are severely affected by AIDS. Each year, SIC selects only 25 college students to attend one of their programs, from hundreds of applicants from around the United States.
Unfortunately, the only thing holding me back from being a part of this wonderful adventure is my lack of funds. SIC is a non-profitable charitable organization that requires all of their volunteers to pay for all of the costs associated with the program. In order to participate in Tanzania this summer I must raise $5,000 by April 8, 2011. The money needed to fund my trip will go directly towards paying my tuition for the program, flight to Tanzania, immunizations and medications needed to travel to Africa. SIC is a charitable, non-governmental organization and requires that each volunteer pay the costs associated with the program.
ANY type of donation will be GREATLY appreciated. I have always wanted to pursue a career in medicine to help others and I believe that this will be a big step towards achieving my goal.
Please feel free to share this link with anyone you might know that is looking to support a great cause!
