*Please help support Autoimmune Disease Awareness*
Hello, my name is Nicole, I reside in Spanaway, Washington and in 2012 was diagnosed with an Autoimmune Disease called Rheumatoid Arthritis. Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that occurs when the body's immune system attacks its own tissue, including joints which in turn causes painful flare-ups. Unlike the wear-and-tear damage of osteoarthritis, RA affects joint linings, causing painful swelling, inflammation that will eventually result in bone erosion, joint deformity and cause physical disabilities. RA is a chronic inflammatory disorder that can affect more than just your joints. It can also damage a wide variety of body systems, including the skin, eyes, lungs, heart, kidneys, salivary glands, nerve tissue, bone marrow and blood vessels. For me the areas being affected are my hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles and feet in which the swelling is so painfully and the joints become so inflamed that I am unable to walk without assistance, hold a glass of water, open a door, dress myself, cook my own food, feed myself and have difficulty in completing simple tasks a person needs to do to care for oneself on a daily basis. Because of this and the side effects from my treatments and medications, my husband is unable to work and stays home to care for me. I am no longer able to enjoy or participate in any activities with my husband, family and friends as I once used to. I have good days and bad days and I try to stay positive for my family and myself. I am in pain every single day and it is a constant battle I continue to fight. There are days I lose but I refuse to give up.
This has been a very, very difficult and costly time for my family. Seeing them hurt and struggling pains me more than I can say. So I am here today to humbly ask your aid in helping me, to help ease the financial burdens my care and illness has caused my family. To wipe the look of stress and worry that I glimpse on their faces and allow us all to breathe a little easier. Unfortunately, even though my insurance covers much, it has not and does not cover all.
Since being diagnosed by my rheumatologist here at the Franciscan Rheumatology Clinic at St. Joseph's Hospital, to now being treated at St. Clare's Hospital, I have undergone 3 surgeries where infected skin, tissue and glands had to be removed due to an infection. In-between surgeries, I was also going through various chemotherapy treatments to get some relief from my painful RA flare-ups. Since healing from my 3rd surgery, my surgeon insisted I take a break to give my body time to heal and to concentrate on getting a steady treatment regimen for my RA to slow the disease down. My rheumatologist at St. Clare's Hospital did a blood test called a VectraDA test that studies the 12 biomarkers of my disease and the results showed my disease activity was severely active and my inflammation levels were getting higher every month. Since 2012, I have gone through many various treatment regimens. However, because of the results from recent MRI'S scans, lab and blood tests, it showed that I am not responding to the current chemotherapy regimen I have been on and require a more aggressive approach. Along with my numerous medications that I take for my other health conditions, as I am also a Type 2 Diabetic, been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and suffer from Severe Asthma ("Status Asthmaticus") just to name a few, I am to start a new daily biologic chemotherapy treatment to be combined with another injectable DMARD that is taken once a week asap. Both are costly and not fully covered by my insurance. Although all the medications I take are needed to treat my conditions, they can cause as much harm to my body as they do to help treat it. There are always risks but our goal is remission and I'm determined to reach it and make the most of whatever time the good lord is gracious enough to give me.
So please consider donating to our campaign to help my family pay for the copay for the new chemotherapy treatment, pay for other monthly medications that are not covered by my insurance, pay for monthly medical supplies and help lessen some of my family’s financial burdens. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated whether it's donations, sharing this campaign link or simply keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives to read this. May the lord bless you and your family with nothing but health, love and happiness. Thank you for your help and kindness, consideration and time. From the bottom of my heart thank you so very much and May God bless you all.
