NILES LEGAL FUND FOR INVISIBLE KIDS PROJECT
Organized by: JULI NILES
As many of you know - we have been fighting to get our little Lydia back in our arms. On Friday, July 12,2013 - Lydi came into our lives at 2 days old. She is the most extraordinary little girl and she is our entire world.
On February 28th, and with 21 hours notice, she was taken from us and now lives with her great grandparents in Florida. As you can imagine - there is so much to our story but we are fighting a very broken system with everything we have. We have been down such an unbelievable and eye-opening journey these past few months and learning we are not alone. We have become part of a congressional think tank working to revise legislature on the rights of foster children and foster parent’s rights specifically.
We have learned that, due to Lydia's great grandparent's age, family history and them already losing custody of her half brother a few days before she was placed with them - the chance of her returning to foster care before the age of 15 is frighteningly high. We love her too much to let her have anything less than the wonderful life she deserves!
We have also most recently joined forces with Holly Schlaack, who wrote Invisible Kids (http://www.invisiblekidsthebook.com) and has now started the Invisible Kids Project (IKP ~ www.invisiblekids.org) to help fight for the rights of foster children both locally and nationally. Her fight for babies and toddlers in the foster system - cases exactly like Lydia's - is beyond inspiring and ALL of you CAN help. It seems that the child welfare system is closed off to anyone not directly involved but, truth is, change is only going to happen from people outside the system and we, Lydia and all 400,000 or so foster children need you.
So here is the ask and it is not easy......as you can probably imagine the legal fees involved in fighting a negligent county are overwhelming. We are above $38,000 to date and there is sadly a great chance this battle for Lydia is a ways from being over. We are humbly asking for your help - we need your help. The official launch of IKP (www.invisiblekids.org) and Memorial of Marcus Fiesel was on Saturday, August 16th and the website and non-profit are up and running. We will have this Legal Fund filter into IKP so there will be constant reserve of money available for the Organization and parents like us fighting for their child's life.
We appreciate your taking time to read this, looking at some of our photos from the 8 months we were blessed enough to have this amazing little girl, your assistance in any amount you see fit as it all helps and mostly your continued prayers for our little family. Thank you !!!! Juli, Ryan and Lydi
