BENEFITING: Alzheimer's Association
My name is Leif Sundberg. I am a competitor on the NBC show "American Ninja Warrior". My motivation to compete on the show comes from my mother's battle with Alzheimer's disease. It was her ability to fight the disease everyday that gave me the motivation to compete on the show, something that I never thought I'd be able to do. If my mother could battle Alzheimer's, I could battle to compete on the show.
Even though my mother gave it her all, eventually her life was taken by the disease. Alzheimer's disease currently does not have a cure, and there are also no preventative measures. A diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease means a certain death. But, that can change. We are making strides in research developments that are helping us better understand Alzheimer's, and we are getting closer to a cure. However, we are not there yet. Research groups need funding in order to make advancements, and that's why I am fundraising for the Alzheimer's Association. It's an orgranization that is devoted to eliminating Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research. It's also an organization that is rated 4 out of 4 stars by Charity Navigator. Meaning the money you give makes a difference in eliminating the disease.
I encourage you to donate whatever you are comfortable with. One day we will wear purple to not only support those suffering from Alzheimer's, but we will wear purple as survivors of the disease.
