NLCP Alumna shines because of you!
February 09, 2017
NLCP is so excited to partner with Microsystems for the 2016-2017 School Year. We are so grateful for the possibilities that you will provide to our school for this coming year. Most NLCP students will be the first person in their family to go to college. Your support will help us make sure they stay on track to earning a degree.
Below, please find some examples of what your generous donation can provide for an NLCP student:
$1,000: Phoenix Rising Summer Enrichment Program
Every summer NLCP sends students to academic, leadership development and community building programs at college campuses all over the country. Our students have attended programs at Yale, Georgetown, and University of Wisconsin to name just a few. They take classes, live in dorm rooms and practice being a college student. This experience prepares our students—and their families—for what it will be like to go away for college. We believe in so much we require our students to do at least one Phoenix Rising program before they graduate.
$500: Emergency Micro-Grant Counseling and Support
Often the financial aid and scholarships our alumni receive do not cover all of the out-of-pocket expenses for college. Inevitably, they need help paying for tuition, housing costs, and other unexpected fees. NLCP has two Alumni Affairs directors who manage an emergency fund that helps students in dire need. The micro grants they award—typically $500 or less—can mean the difference between a student staying in college or returning home.
$250: Transportation to and from College
We encourage our students to go colleges where they can be successful. Sometimes those colleges are far away. NLCP tries to help by providing our students with bus, train or airfare to get to their college campus or home for the Holidays. When our graduates are home we ask them to pay this type of assistance forward. They visit our school and talk with our current students about what life as a college student is like.
$100: Dorm Room Supplies
Showing up for college isn’t cheap. You need linens, towels and other supplies to outfit your dorm room. NLCP steps in by sending care packages full of school supplies and snacks and by providing small micro grants to help students with cost-of-living expenses.
