New year, new race goal, new charity! Happy 2015, everyone! This year, I've set my sights on a new half marathon personal record, which won't be easy after last year's blistering 8:00 min/mile pace and a lovely 1:44:45 time!
What will be easy is donating to a wonderful cause. Nickers N Neighs Therapeutic Riding Center, located in Ligonier, PA, strives to improve the lives of children and adults with special challenges through a therapeutic partnership with horses. Through this sport, students can exercise both body and mind. The movement of the horse helps riders' physical needs in flexibility, balance and muscle strength. Emotionally, the unique relationship formed while working with the horse can lead to increased confidence, patience and self-esteem.
Those of us who are fortunate enough to own, ride, or just love a horse know how true this is. I often joke that my horse is both my therapist, and my gym. Truly a bargain!
All kidding aside, it is an expensive endeavor, and one that is not readily available to everyone. This fundraiser would allow a family in need to take 10 riding lessons that they otherwise could not afford. If you would like to donate a lesson, it is $35. However, every bit counts, and if you have $10 to spare, please consider donating to this wonderful cause!
