BENEFITING: No Barriers
Military families sacrifice far more for our country than most of us imagine. Spouses raise families and support their households alone for much of the time, and children anxiously await for their military parent or sibling to be home again. Missing school plays, birthdays, and holidays is commonplace, but the ultimate sacrifice comes when that person, most often a dad, never returns home. Today there are tens of thousands of children who have lost a parent to war.
For the past 3 years, No Barriers has teamed up with the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation to take students ages 14-18, who have lost a parent serving in the military, on a 9 day rafting adventure. Far more than a fun excursion, these students have the opportunity to bond together and set goals for their futures while they rediscover living lives of purpose. Two groups will be embarking this summer on the journey of a lifetime down the San Juan River in Arizona. The teams will be challenged in their expedition and be faced with the opportunity to overcome obstacles and experience what it means to live a No Barriers life. These transformative life-changing trips are provided at no cost to the teenager or their family. But they cannot happen without YOUR help. If you would like to make a major difference in shaping a young person’s life who has experienced the loss of a loved one who served our country, please donate to the Children of the Fallen fund today.
We have selected scholarship applicants who have high potential but low opportunity for this kind of life-changing program. Each demonstrate leadership, academic merit, pursue education outside of the classroom, and exhibit an interest in the natural world. In addition, all students selected for scholarship have committed to completing requirements that engage the participant before, during, and after the expedition to ensure the experience is impactful as possible. These are not your average teenagers.
