Support The NOAH Project's Art Van Challenge
There are over 15,000 people in the City of Detroit who are experiencing homelessness. For the past forty years, the NOAH Project has served as a safe, welcoming place for individuals on the streets to find a family of support and an environment that fosters growth.
You can help us provided needed services to people like:
Linda, who comes to NOAH for lunch, to help her food dollars stretch throughout the month. NOAH served over 38,000 lunches in 2015.
Toney, who with the help of our caseworkers and after five years of living on the streets, turned the key to his very own apartment. We saw over 800 people for 3,665 casework sessions in 2015.
Craig, who had no medical insurance. Together with our volunteer nurses in our Wellness Center, Craig is now insured and has the medication needed to control his high blood pressure.
Joseph, who came to one of our Computers 101 classes, created a resume, and has found work. 370 people used our Computer Training Lab in 2015.
Angelyc, who was staying on the streets and was engaged by our Street Outreach Program. She's now linked with physical and mental health services and has applied for housing.
Robert, who was thrilled to ride on his own bicycle that he rebuilt in our Earn-A-Bike class. Armed with skills and transportation, he can now get to work on time.
And many others who find a family in the NOAH Project.
But we need your help to continue this work!
We have no qualifications, restrictions, or criteria to receive services from NOAH. We turn no one away. But in the last year, we've seen an increase in the demand for our services:
- A 10% increase in the number of lunches we served
- A 25% increase in the number of social service sessions
- The creation of the Computer Training Lab and the Earn-A-Bike class
- Four and a half times as many transports to the our medical partner Covenant Community Care.
And in 2016 we will continue to grow!
As we continue into this year, there are a number of new programs that we are excited to launch and expand. But we need your help and support to make it happen.
- The launch of our Street Outreach Program. We're going outside the walls to reach people most on the margins, engage them, and navigate them into housing.
- Partnering with Beyond Basics, we plan to offer a literacy class to strengthen the skills of individuals who struggle with reading.
- In an effort to Go Green, we plan on installing a commercial dishwasher and transitioning away from using Styrofoam cups in our kitchen to reusable cups and mugs.
