Nomadic Guardians Foundation

Livestock guardian dogs protect wildlife, herding culture, and the ecosystem. Tax ID 46-4788128

MBDP is a 501(c)3 non-profit that researches, breeds, and trains Mongolian Bankhar livestock guardian dogs in order to place these working dogs with nomadic herding families on the Mongolian steppe. There the Bankhar will perform their traditional role of protecting livestock (sheep, goat, horse, camel, yak) against large carnivorous predators including snow leopards, wolves, bears, foxes and eagles.

Lethal predator control (shooting, trapping, poison) and retribution killings of predators are major threats to predator populations in Mongolia. The use of livestock guardian dogs has been shown to reduce predation on domestic livestock by 80-100%, eliminating the need for lethal predator control and encouraging predators to target natural prey species instead of domestic ones.
