Non-Profit start up to keep families off the street
Organized by: Verity Harrison
Being a single mom, I know first hand how hard it is to get into a home with only one income. Not long ago I had to move from the home I was renting. Because of credit damage and low income it was near impossible to find somewhere to live. In fact, I was a day away from being in the homeless shelter. Luckily I had a friend that stepped up and took us in. Over the course of 4 months, I looked for somewhere else to live. Most places wanted you to have 3 to 4 times the amount of the rent as monthly income. Being a single parent, that is pretty much impossible. Adding the credit damage, makes it impossible. I would like to start a nonprofit that works with realty companies in bringing down that income requirement for single parents as well as get them credit repair help. This ensuring these families don't have to be on the street until the credit is better. Making realty companies more comfortable working with these single parents knowing they're being guided by the credit repair companies. As I said, I just came out of this position myself which is what prompted me that something needs to be done. It also means I unfortunately don't have the funds to pull this startup off by myself. Please help me prevent families going to the streets. Every little bit helps. Thank you.
