BENEFITING: Gynecologic Cancer Foundation
EVENT DATE: Jun 29, 2013
As many of you know, my mother, Louise Ross, has been fighting endometrial cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston...treatment that, we HOPE, will be curative. She's being a trooper (just over a week to go!), and I wanted to both honor her and help support others who are going through this kind of thing or know someone else who is.
The thought came to mind that this would be the perfect time to initiate a fundraising effort and combine it with an upcoming race I am running in June.
On June 29th, I will be running in the Rugged Maniac Race in Brooklyn, NY. This is a 5K race with over 20 obstacles including climbing 20' high walls, jumping over fire, and crawling through tunnels of mud. I thought that an obstacle race would be rather fitting as the springboard for a fundraising effort.
When I asked my mom about which foundation she would want me to raise money for, she chose the Foundation for Women’s Cancer/Gynecological Cancer Foundation. So, in her honor, I am excited to have this opportunity to raise money for this wonderful cause.
Given the format of my race, you may want to consider a "per obstacle" donation. I will be tackling 20 (or so) obstacles. That said, donations of ANY amount* would be most appreciated by me, my mother, and the Foundation.
Also...anyone want to run with me?!?
If you are interested, please let me know. firstname.lastname@example.org
*I believe a $10 minimum will be processed using Crowdrise, so if you'd like to donate less please do so at http://www.foundationforwomenscancer.org/ways-to-give/online/ and let me know, so that I can add your amount to the total goal!
