Help A HS Sophomore Get Her TuitiON!

THE STORY:

Hello, my name is Nora Schuey, and I want to be a physical chemist who writes for scientific journals. I'm 16 years old, my favorite authors are John Green and Kurt Vonnegut, and in my free time I like to write poetry. I’m pretty smart, with a 31 on my ACT and straight A's including advanced classes like Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry. My mother is an English teacher at my small, rural High School, my father is disabled due to heart problems, and I've just been accepted into college two years early. Help!

Northwest Missouri State University has accepted my application to Missouri Academy. This program allows me to become dual enrolled at both my sending school and Northwest Missouri State for the next two years, meaning that after I graduate from the academy I will receive both a high school diploma and an Associates Degree in Science. While attending I will be enrolled in all college courses, learning right beside traditional college students. I will be living in the Missouri Academy dorm on campus, with advisors and counselors helping me succeed. This program costs about $20,000 a year. I already have grants and stipend to pay around $10,500. Unfortunately, I am ineligible for all scholarships because I will not have graduated high school until the end of these two years.

Mizzou has also accepted me for a much smaller, yet equally exciting program called (strangely enough) Missouri Scholars Academy. This program takes place over the summer on the University of Missouri, Columbia campus where I will live for three weeks while studying English and Humanities. This program is offered only to the top 330 sophomores in Missouri, which means I will be surrounded with like-minded students, ready and eager to take their learning to the next level. The entire cost to me is only $500, and that’s not terrible, but it’s still more money than I have.

Academically and socially, I am ready for both of these experiences! Financially? Not so much. Hopefully, that’s where you come in! Are you interested in being a small time philanthropist? This young renaissance nerd needs patrons! Every dollar counts, whether is $5 or $50, $20 or $100. I’m very appreciative of any and all donations. I’ve provided links to both of these programs bellow so you know more about the programs you are helping me attend. Thank you!
