Hello friends and family!
As many of you know, I started down a path to better health and fitness after our third daugher, Avery, was born in early 2012. Having never stuck to a fitness plan in the past, I decided to take up running. I had never run a mile before in my life, but stuck with it, and slowly but surely, eventually completed my first 5k in November 2012. I felt such pride that I had stuck with it and completed my goal, but what next?
I kept adding mileage and finished a 10k in the spring of 2013. During that time, I also started running with friends who were crazy enough to train for half marathons. Running with them made me crazy as well. Since then, I've completed two half marathons and a 10-mile race (along with a handful of shorter distance races). Each race, I see improvements and love learning what my mind and body is capable of!
While pregnant with Avery, our family joined the local YMCA as well. We have found not only better health, but a community in our Y. Every single member of our family loves the YMCA. John works out there daily (ask him how much he can deadlift sometime). I'm there working out typically 5-6 days a week - from running, to spinning, kickboxing and weight lifting! The kids try different sports, swim lessons and Grace has found a passion for yoga.
Not only has the YMCA been great for our family, but it does wonderful things in our community. As the leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the Y works side-by-side with communities every day to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. When you support the Y, you help bring about lasting personal and social change.
I am running the Pittsburgh Half on May 3, 2015 to support our local YMCA. Please consider helping me in my goal to raise $350 by donating securely. Every donation helps - from $1 and up! Thank you for your support!
