North Crown Heights Festival of the Arts
Organized by: Sandra Hawkins
EVENT DATE Aug 15, 2015
Crown Heights is a neighborhood rich in history, with an abundance of architectural gems and a diverse community. In the center of it all is Brower Park once known as Bedford Park. Brower is a sprawling park, with magnificent trees, a butterfly garden and playgrounds. At it's North West corner is the Brooklyn Childrens Museum.
On July 12th, 2014 a small group of resident artists and supporters formed a committee, an adjunct to the FRIENDS OF BROWER PARK, and designated it the NORTH CROWN HEIGHTS FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS (NCHFA). Through this first annual festival we are striving to bring community together. Art has proven to be the common denominator and the festival will showcase paintings, sculptures and handcrafted art.
Our mission is 1) to create a venue for upcoming artists at Brower Park, 2) provide an opportunity to engage a diverse community on common ground, creating dialogue and an appreciation for each other’s contributions, 3) to bring more visitors to Brower Park and expose it’s rich history and value to the community.
The festival will feature the music of BATALANYC (www.batalanyc.com) and food vendors will be on site.
Funds raised would cover the cost of insurance, advertising/marketing and cleanup. Please help us reach our goal and enjoy the day with us! P.S. we have an earlier deadline in order to be able to get the word out. So every bit helps asap:0)
