Northern Dominican Flood Relief
Organized by: Heath Kolman
November 30, 2016
Since third week of October 2016 it has been raining pretty much every day and/or night in northern Dominican Republic. I travel to Villa Isabela in this region regularly. The rain Sunday night (Dec 27) resulted in the worst flooding Villa Isabela has received in the memory of the elderly residents. The majority of homes and stores were flooded. The residents are relatively poor; it is primarily a farming community of around maybe 8,000. The initial report I received was 8 people including at least 1 child had died. Some homes were destroyed; and many lost their household items. I will be in Villa Isabela to distribute any help that I can raise. I am concerned that the smaller pueblos down river may have been hit harder, but have not heard. They have had 2-3 lesser flooding incidents in the past 5 weeks. I'm open to suggestion on how to best apply the funds. I will 50% match all donations up to the $2000 funding goal. Thank you.
