Did you know that LITERACY starts from birth. Think of the many ways to communicate with a newborn. From visual to audible, from reading to imagination.... this becomes the beginning of LITERACY COMBATS HOMELESSNESS.
We start with Imagination Library providing FREE books to children every month from newborn to 5 years old when they are ready to go to school. Family sharing, reading, discussing and imagining with a child becomes fun and bonding. When school is difficult we jump in with our Power Readers program to get them up to speed and in most cases ahead of their grade level.
It's never too late to enjoy a wonderful life. Help us combat homelessness throughout Santa Barbara County by focusing on quickly moving homeless individuals and families into permanent housing and simultaneously providing the support services they need to thrive and enjoy the delights of their community. Those individuals who suffer with chronic health, mental health and substance abuse challenges can succeed with stable housing first concept and the ongoing help from agencies/people who care to walk the journey with them for the long run.
With your help and a bevy of agency partners from every type of industry, this campaign will kick-off an Action Plan that will coordinate the collection, sharing, and tracking of our homeless neighbor's and their conditions to start to assist the most vulnerable and critical before it is too late.
Ending chronic and veteran homelessness will only be possible if everyone gets involved, including the nonprofit sector, public and private sectors, the faith community, philanthropy, labor and community members in every region.
If everyone just does a small part, together we will make a DYNAMIC IMPACT in bringing our homeless neighbors home, healthy, and happy.
