With your donation to the Annual Campaign, you make it possible for children and teens to take part in programs that teach them positive behaviors, allow them to explore their talents and help them grow and realize their potential. Thank you for your support and generosity!
Because of your contribution, this year the North Oakland Family YMCA is able to support.....
- YMCA Day Camp: Each summer, more than 100 parents apply for financial support in order to afford safe, nurturing and enriching YMCA camp of their children. Many working parents are unable to provide summer camp without your support. YMCA Day Camp is more than child care – campers participate in tutoring activities, swim lessons, physical activities and service projects. Most importantly, all YMCA children learn the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Over 100 day campers are awaiting your support. The average family requesting assistance receives $85 in weekly support in order to afford YMCA Day Camp while they work.
- YMCA Preschool: Gives kids the necessary skills they need to enter kindergarten. Thirty-Five percent enter kindergarten behind in reading and language levels. They start behind and rarely catch up. At North Oakland Family YMCA Preschool, Y staff adequately prepare preschoolers in the developmental skills necessary to begin their elementary educations. The average YMCA child care and preschool family applying for help receives $450 in monthly assistance in order to ensure quality, enriching child care and preschool while family members work to provide for their family. Help during this critical time in a child’s life places them on a path to educational success.
- Girls on the Run: More than 100 girls, ages 8-13, are hoping for financial support for this extraordinary program combining a message of healthy choices with the physical fitness of running.
Girls on The Run builds self-esteem, teaches healthy choices, provides education and peer support – all while teaching the joy of physical activity. All girls “graduate” with a 5K race along with 1,500 other girls from across Southeast Michigan. More than 100 girls are needing your assistance. $150 supports a girl through the 20 sessions and includes her first pair of shoes.
