We at the Desert Chamber Orchestra were contacted in May of 2015 by Sister Grace a 85 year young nun that had been giving music lessons out of Saul Martinez Elementary school in Mecca CA that after 35 years she was no longe able to give the children music lessons which she was volinteering . The elementary  school here in this poor farming community in the California desert have  no funding for music classes this includes 6 schools and over 6,500 children deprived from never having a chance to play any musicever. Over 100 miles to the nearest paid music classes. To deprive over Six Thousand Five Hundred Children Music. We at DCO knew we had to do something. The Goal is to aquire  land offered under market price  erect a 4,400 sq. ft. building to support the children's  music classes, ensemble and orchestra rehearsals, and future recoding studio. The 1.6 acre property  offere is  fully fenced with a new electric gate for entry. WE need these funds Now.September is only  months away. To protect the children DCO has a back up plan to start the 2nd week of  Sept 2016, DCO will use whatever properties we can find  to have classes until North Shore Youth Acadmey is finished at the new property, i.e. North Shore Yacht Club, Mecca Boys & Girls Club,DCO will use thes temperary locations  to insure that the children  finally get the opportunity  to learn and play music, this 2016-2017 school year. All instructions, the music classes, both group and private, are  without any the children or their  parents toinclude all equipment and supplies.NSYA will offer stringed instrument (violin, guitar) Plus  percussion (drumline) to the children the first year. NSYA intends to expand classes to include piano/keyboard, vocal, and music appreciation,and recording studio instruction . The total number of children that NSYA can inspire , Six schools plus the children from Torres Martinez Indian Reservation  this year, over 6 504. The breakdown is listed here NSYA wants you to know that this is urgent. Your donations are the only way The children from these schools will have a chance to play music.  The list of Elementary Schools:  

 Saul Martinez Elementary  in Mecca CA with  1,142 students

Mecca Elementary with over  800 students

John Kelly Elementary  with  603 students

West Side Elementary with 581 students

Oasis Elementary with 677 students

Las Palmitas Elementary with 701 students

Donations  from  individuals,  familys, and  business  near and fa are urgently requested and  desperatly needed to support this project. Please give These children a chance.This is the severest impoverished  rural desert farming  community in California.With out your support children living here will never have a, chance at a musical career. We could lose a budding new Michael Jackson, Madonna, or Joshua Bell  A prodigy is not discovered  age 15 to 20 do we risk this lost opportunity.PLease give what you can to make this happen. Right now these thousands of childrens lives are at risk.
