BENEFITING: Northwest Advocacy Foundation
The occurrence of domestic violence in the United States is staggering: 1 in 4 women have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. Many victims are desperate to leave their abuser, but there are countless hurdles that stand in their way.
One of the biggest hurdles is that the need for services far exceeds the availability. On a typical day in the United States, 12,000 requests for services from domestic violence agencies will not be accomodated due to insufficient resources. One of the most frequently requested nonresidential services that programs lacked capacity to provide was legal representation.
Northwest Advocacy Foundation is a nonprofit law firm that recognizes and seeks to address the immense disconnect between the needs of victims, and what is actually available to them. We assist victims of domestic violence in a variety of legal issues, including obtaining a domestic violence protection order, securing a protective parenting plan, and addressing housing issues. We also help survivors connect with nonlegal social services, including transitional housing and job training.
With your support, we will continue to advocate for women like Amy, as they regain a sense of control and purpose over their lives.
