Statistics show that each summer, students from low-income, non-English speaking households fall one entire grade level behind their more resourced peers in reading competency. Northwest Neighbors' Summer Camp has filled in this gap for over 15 years. Each summer, 50 elementary-age students receive tutoring in reading, writing, and math, while learning other fundamentals such as critical thinking, team work, and perseverance, while being exposed to a variety of enrichment activities and having fun in a safe environment! Over a dozen of our junior high and high school students are also given the invaluable opportunity to serve in all levels of leadership in camp. It is incredible how much impact 4-5 short weeks can have in a student's life! Since 2006, elementary students on average have increased their reading levels by 1/2 a grade level each summer. Additionally, it offers a safe place for students to build friendships and be mentored by older students and staff. Your donations make our summer camp possible. - $50 covers supplies for one enrichment activity - $200 covers the full cost of sending 1 child to camp - $500 covers the stipend of 1 junior staff
