Northwestern Loves Mike Selmer!
Organized by: Anita Brienza
GREAT NEWS! Your amazing gifts, all generous (and a few we can only describe as "over-the-top!") brought us to our first goal of $6,600...and since more people wanted to give, we increased it. And then we upped it again so we can keep going!
Our former high school classmate Mike Selmer (Northwestern Class of '74) is a great guy. Nice, smart, funny, accomplished, athletic, and optimistic. Amazing husband, dad, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, coach, friend, runner, climber, writer, political candidate...all those things and more.
But some of the "more" isn't so happy: Mike was diagnosed recently with mantle cell cancer, a type of non-Hodgkins lymphoma that can be held back with treatment, but is terminal. The same week he was diagnosed, his wife was transitioned out of her job...and their insurance as well. The cost of the new insurance is formidable every month. Mike said, "I think the physical and mental challenges of having stage 4 cancer pale alongside the financial challenges."
If you can lend a hand moderately, generously, or extravagantly, let's try to meet a big goal of taking two or three months' insurance worry off of Mike and his family. And if this is not the best time for you to give, but you can help spread the word, that's excellent support for this cause, too.
This could be any one of us, and it's hard enough to be ill without the added burden of financial concerns. Get that heart out and put it on your sleeve.
Go, you Northwestern, fight for victory! Spread far the fame of our fair name, go Northwestern - win that CrowdRise game for Mike Selmer!
Yes, we know that's really corny and it doesn't rhyme at the end! But we're trying to get you to participate! Thanks, in advance, for your consideration and support. We can make a big difference together.
(Mike lives in Laramie, WY - that's why this event is "located" there.)
