BENEFITING: No Stomach For Cancer
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2013

In loving memory of my mother Julie, who passed away in Melbourne, Australia, in April of 2012, after a horribly short battle with stomach cancer. My goal is to walk from the City of Fremont, 28 miles (44km) to the place that mum loved the best, the beach. The closest beach I can find will be the wintery shoreline of Lake Michigan, I hope to raise some awareness of this devastating disease, raise some much needed money for research, and to spend a day reflecting on the life and times of a great mother, Julie.
My Press Release for October!!
On Saturday, Nov. 2, local resident James Kelly will dedicate his day to kicking off Stomach Cancer Awareness Month® by participating in the 2nd Annual No Stomach For Cancer® Walk. No Stomach For Cancer (NSFC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting research and empowering families affected by stomach cancer.
Stomach cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the world with one million new cases diagnosed each year and more than 800,000 deaths annually. No Stomach For Cancer fought for and won a US Senate resolution proclaiming November National Stomach Cancer Awareness Month. Stomach cancer currently receives the least amount of federal funding per cancer death in the United States.
“We are excited for the 2nd Annual No Stomach For Cancer Walk,” said Karen Chelcun Schreiber, founder of No Stomach For Cancer. “As we meet more families affected by stomach cancer, we know that the need to raise awareness is more important than ever. The Walk is a great way to kick off Stomach Cancer Awareness Month and gives people everywhere an opportunity to unite in support of research and education so we can move closer to our vision of a world without stomach cancer.”
People are invited to walk individually, or as a group, on Saturday, Nov. 2. James plans to walk a 27.6 mile route from Fremont to Lake Michigan, in Montague, as a dedication to his mother Julie who passed away from stomach cancer in April of 2012. If you would like to support James and his goal of raising awareness and funds to support those struggling with this disease, please visit his fundraising page at http://www.crowdrise.com/nostomachforcancerci/fundraiser/jameskelly1
If you would like to join him in raising awareness by joining him for either a part or all of his journey, please register online at www.nostomachforcancer.org and join the "No Stomach for Cancer: City to Surf for Julie" team! If you cannot make it to Fremont, check the web-site for locations of walks all around the world, or do as James did, and plan your own event.
