BENEFITING: No Stomach For Cancer
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2014
I was diagnosed with stomach cancer In May of 2014 at the age of 27.
It started out as heartburn. Then, my stomach felt like it was gnawing. Eating and drinking peppermint tea made my stomach feel calm, but the discomfort would always come back. I finally decicded to see the doctor when I began producing black stool. But before I could see him, I passed out and was rushed to the ER. After an endoscopy, it was discovered I had 3 ulcers, caused by H. Pylori, which is a common bacteria. After months of taking antibiotics and Protonix I went for a followup endoscopy. Two ulcers had healed, one was still fairly large. After mutilple tests, it was found to be cancerous. I had half of my stomach removed in June of 2014. About a month later I began weekly chemo sessions.
The last few months have been challenging. I'm still trying to overcome obstacles today! But, everyday I am grateful. I am grateful for the amazing team of doctors I have. I am greatful for the love, support and prayers from my family and friends.
I wish no one ever has to go through what I am going through. That is why I am organizing this walk-- to raise awareness and funds for reasearch.
I hope to see you on Novemember 1, 2014!
