Thanks for doing this. I've pushed through and now manage dyslexia all while becoming a writer. My son, a goalie is in a hard battle, I took him from the high school last year to home school, he refuses to be tested and wants nothing to do with an IEP.

It's the stigma that kills their confidence. I've asked the school so many times to stop using the term 'learning disabled,' the kids a genius. But by the middle of 9th grade and puberty, these kids are losing their confidence and positive identity.

If we as a society could just turn the dial one degree to recognize the creative strengths these kids have, we would have a different world, a much happier place.

Thanks again,

Lara

Stuff About Me:

As a dyslexic student I was acutely aware of my learning differences. The moment reading was introduced in primary school, I was bombarded by clues from my peers and teachers that I was 'different', 'lazy' and 'stupid'.

Like many dyslexics, I believed this narrative and suffered from low self-esteem and feelings of deficiency. It was until years later, after countless hours of study marked by raw determination, that I was accepted at Bates College... Finally a piece of irrefutable evidence that contradicted my early detractors.

I flourished at Bates. My creativity and unique perspective became an asset of distinction. I unearthed my entrepreneurial spirit. I reversed the negative internal dialogue that had plagued me for years.

NoticeAbility takes a strength-based approach to dyslexic education. Our proprietary curricula cater to the cognitive advantages that accompany the dyslexic mind. Each curriculum vertical (entrepreneurial leadership, architecture, engineering and the arts) exposes students with dyslexia to their neurological strengths and provides them with the opportunity to learn through the multiple modalities that an e-learning platform affords while exercising experiential learning in classroom facilitated instruction.
