Not in Our Name - USA
Organized by: The American People
We aim to raise $225,000 - just 1% of the $225,000,000 in military aid for Israel recently approved by Congress - to protect the people of Gaza from the bombs that we unwillingly paid for.
Every year, the United States provides Israel with over $3,000,000,000 of military assistance, to maintain one of the most powerful armies in the entire world.
In addition, Congress just voted 395-8 to provide another $225,000,000 in "emergency aid" to replenish the same US-supplied weapons that have already killed over 1,800 civilians in Gaza, including 373 children.
International opinion is near-unanimous that Israel's deliberate targeting of civilians, schools, journalists, and hospitals amounts to a war crime, and recent polls show the US public shares many of these same concerns.
It seems like the only place where we don't see concern about the loss of human life is in our own government, which continues to contribute to needless death and destruction on our behalf.
As American citizens, we refuse to be complicit in this slaughter. Until we vote them out, we can't stop the US government from spending our tax dollars to kill innocent Palestinians, but we can try to offset this tragedy by supporting victims of the violence that we helped create.
Money raised will be divided between the following organizations:
UNRWA (30%) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East is a relief and human development agency providing education, health care, social services and military aid to 5 million Palestinian refugees from the 1948 and 1967 wars and their descendants.
DCI (30%) - Defence for Children International is an independent non-governmental organisation set up during the International Year of the Child (1979) to ensure on-going, practical, systematic and concerted international and national action specially directed towards promoting and protecting the rights of the child.
ANERA (30%) - ANERA (American Near East Refugee Aid) is a leading development organization improving the lives of Palestinian refugees and poor families in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. ANERA reaches the region’s most vulnerable people with health, education and economic development programs and provides humanitarian and emergency relief in times of crisis.
+972 (10%) - +972 is a web magazine that is jointly owned by a group of journalists, bloggers and photographers whose goal is to provide fresh, original, on-the-ground reporting and analysis of events in Israel and Palestine. We believe it is important to promote independent and apolitical media outlets to cover the conflict fairly and responsibly.
