One last thank you to all my…
One last thank you to all my supporters!! I was able to complete the full marathon this past Saturday, May 14, in Stinson Beach/Muir Woods. Most people were there for the half marathon - there were only 9 men, and 4 women in total doing the full marathon.

I can't count how many times I heard "you are hardcore!" when I said I was doing this as my first marathon. I was pretty nervous at the start line, with the weather cool, cloudy, and drizzling rain the whole time. We started on the beach and went upwards on the dipsea trail and steep ravine trails, until we arrived at Muir Woods where we completed two excruciatingly difficult but beautiful loops around the national redwood forest. We then ran an additional 5.2 miles down and up the california coastal trail, before heading back the last 3 miles on the dipsea trail to stinson beach. We gained over 5600 feet in elevation throughout the course, and had some incredibly beautiful treks around muir woods and on the mountain overlooking the pacific ocean.

Admittedly I was very worried I would not be be able to complete this unusual, full length marathon (which came out to nearly 28 miles, longer than the usual), in the 6 hour allotted time (around 13 minute miles and filled with steep hills, streams, and narrow pathways through trees, rocks, and brushwood)- but I made good time and I finished right at 6 hours. I have been recovering for the last few days, but overall I walked away fairly unscathed! No broken bones or hurt joints as far as I can tell, it's just difficult to walk and go up and down stairs :P.

Thank you all so much for your support these last few months, for helping me to raise awareness about the syrian refugee crisis, and importantly for your generous donations to help refugees!

Stuff About Me:

Since the beginning of the Syrian war I always felt a huge sense of obligation, especially when looking into my favorite math tutor's eyes who is Syrian. Seeing the pain and suffering and Arab against Arab war I felt a strong sense of urgency to help make a change. I am lucky to have over 3 years of experience in clinical settings ranging from administering injections, drawing blood, performing EKG's, urine analysis as well as careful instructions on how to use and take medication while working under a physician’s supervision. I have a lot of experience and capabilities in extracting information from foreign speaking patients such as getting the latest updates on vaccinations that were administered. I can translate English to Arabic and help assist in other aspects of health care. I think since so much information has been lost on each refugee and the best thing to do would be to focus on the most urgent and wounded needs of each patient.

I plan on raising a fundraiser at Farmingdale State College and Hofstra University including multiple universities in the Area of Long Island where I am currently studying towards my Physician Assistant degree. I am partnering with my older sister, Hanadie Yousef and our cousin Samah Anna Yousef who is obtaining her degree as an LPN. Myself and Samah Anna are both Certified Medical Assistants with extensive background experience in many fields of medicine which ranged from Emergency Medicine, Gastroenterology, Urology, Family Practitioner and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The sooner we can begin donating to Hanadie’s marathon fundraiser campaign where all donations can be securely transferred to a non-profit US-based charity group, which we will then as a team volunteer with on a medical mission to help refugees, the sooner our real work begins. I am willing to travel to Greece and Jordan to assist in both regions where medical attention is needed, depending on the missions being organized. I also can get in touch with medical supply companies that can supply medical necessities as charitable donations.

I began caring for others at 16 years of age. It began with employment at Saint Mary’s Rehabilitation for Children where I was a dietary technician aide. I carefully assisted the Dietary Technician in meal planning and making sure every child was getting the proper nutrition they needed. I often would myself feed infants and assist in all aspects of dietary needs. The diseases ranged from cancer, children on waiting lists for kidney transplants to Neural Tube defects such as Spinal Bifida and Anencephaly.  The facility housed children from the age of infants and up to 16 years old. After 2 years I gained further experience working at Atria Assisted Living Community where I was one on one caring for patients as a Home Health Aide. I am kind to the elderly, I respect them and have patients and I love children.

The charity we hope to raise funds for is Salaam Cultural Museum (SCM).
SCM is a peaceful non profit organization aiming to help the children who desperately need our help. Since the beginning of the Syrian civil war which has been going on since 2011, 200,000 people have been murdered with many millions displaced and thousands living in lands and countries that are foreign to them. Many are now homeless including the population of children who lost a mother, a father, sister or brother. They are frightened, unclothed, hungry and poverty stricken. It is our duty as Human Beings to respond to Humanity. We have teamed up with SAMS, The Syrian American Medical Society. All donations made through this website directly goes to this organization that uses all funds to provide food, water, medical care and shelter. The basic necessities that should never be denied to any human being.
