I am part of a wonderful organization that sends backpacks home full of food with children who are on the free and reduced lunch program at our school. The pending non-profit-status organization currently has 19 recipients whose families benefit from our community coming together to donate food one Friday a month which we use to pack the backpacks each Friday. The one and most beneficial item, long-shelf-life milk is one that we purchase out of our small budget because it is hard to find and expensive. Our community donates other staples. Our goal is to raise the milk money for this year so that we can put our small monetary surplus into some Holiday baskets in which we'd like to provide socks, underwear, toothbrushes, etc. to the children and their families. One child whose family had not been identified for the program was found taking food from the lunch line after he'd already eaten. This child now receives a backpack of food from Nourishing Noggins and this incident has made us aware that more children than our 19 are hungry and we need to reach out. If we could simply raise the milk money for this year, we could put our energies and money into other things and into serving more children. Thank YOU!!!
