There may be nothing more heartbreaking than hearing your child has a serious medical challenge. It is estimated that close to 250,000 kids under the age of 18 are being treated for life-threatening conditions in the Great Lakes region.
The fight these children and their families endure often include long periods of time in and out of hospitals. That combined with the stress of not being able to enjoy a normal life, constant worry, and medical bills, is over-whelming.
North Star Reach is a respite. A camp where for a week, the focus is not on illness but on experiencing joy and independence in a beautiful outdoor setting where there are no limitations. It is a “prescription for fun”!
Existing camp programs vary widely in their capacity to address the needs of children with health issues. Most are inadequate and have barriers which limit the number of kids who can attend safely. At times, facilities have been rented and retro-fitted to try and accommodate medical needs. There is a huge unmet need right now.
North Star Reach is committed to providing a camp where all needs are attended to, and where parents can rest easy knowing their children are safe.
In this critical year, as camp is under construction, we must finish our fundraising. Children and their families are counting on North Star Reach to provide a camping experience that boosts self-esteem, ignites interests, inspires hope, and helps kids feel “normal” in spite of their challenges. And, while camp is not free, it is always free for children and their families because of your support.
With your help close to 1,500 children from the Great Lakes area will call North Star Reach their camp home annually! Your donation is a “prescription for fun” for children with serious health challenges.
